A-bombed Tree

Kurogane Holly
(Atago Pond)
  Nakamachi, Naka-ku, Hiroshima (Atago Pond)

  (2024.11.24)
This is the westernmost of the five Kurogane Holly trees.
It has strong roots and the bark looks healthy, but I'm worried about the blackening of the leaves.

The tree to the east of the Bead tree
It's looking healthy and full of red berries.
Perhaps because it's hugging a rock, it has many branches from the base.
I think that out of the five trees, this is the most beautiful in terms of shape.

A tree to the north of the Bead tree.
The roots don't protrude much, giving it a slender appearance.
The red berries are few and not very voluminous.

  The easternmost tree.
The trunk isn't very thick, but the branches spread out, giving it a neat shape.

  A tree near the hotel.
Although it has a thin trunk, it is the most gorgeous tree out of the five, bearing the most red berries.
The branches spread out and are layered, giving the tree a sense of volume.

(2025.4.12)

(2025.5.11)
There are many buds, and I'm sure many small flowers will bloom soon.

(2025.9.15)
The westernmost tree. It was weak for a while, but is now recovering.

A tree on the east side of the Bead Tree.
It has many branches and is very attractive.
This tree also bears many fruits.

A tree on the north side of the Bead Tree.
There is little fruit.

The easternmost tree.
It has many branches but not many fruits.

The tree closest to the hotel.
This tree is thin but gorgeous, bearing many fruits every year.

(2026.2.1)
The tree on the far west side had shown signs of declining vigor,
then looked refreshed after being pruned and seemed to recover,
but when I checked it today, there were no red berries and the foliage had thinned, which is worrying.
It will need to be monitored over time.

The tree on the east side of the bead tree has, as in previous years, produced many red berries.
This tree appears to be in good vigor.

The tree on the north side of the bead tree has fewer red berries,
but they are present across the whole tree.

The easternmost tree did not have any red berries.

The tree on the hotel side produces an abundance of red berries every year, giving it a very splendid appearance.
